The Mohan family had been on the house hunt for quite some time. When they finally found their dream home, the only design element standing in their way was an outdated kitchen. Having worked with Cantoni over the years, they found the help they needed in our Houston design team.
Inspired by the home's surrounding waterways, the Cantoni Houston design team created a light and airy design with bold pops of color. They started by identifying the best layout for the Mohan's kitchen based on how they envisioned utilizing the space — to cook, eat, entertain and enjoy general family fun. Mr. Mohan wanted to ensure he could enjoy his morning coffee seated at a table instead of a traditional countertop bar. So, the team designed an eat-in kitchen to include a custom breakfast table where he could do just that.
The design team selected a refreshing color scheme of blues, greys and white with orange accents — which was carried from the kitchen into the living room. Combining the Mohan's minimalist wants with their love of coastal-inspired living, the Cantoni design team chose seamless cabinetry in white high gloss lacquer and incorporated geometric deep blue lacquered panels. To create additional layers of visual interest, textural stone was applied to the island’s exterior, intended to mimic the waves from the surrounding waterways. This unique texture was also applied into the living room’s soaring walls for a high drama effect.
To complete the open floor plan, the Cantoni team selected complementary furnishings for the adjacent living room. Sculptural glass cocktail tables and sleek suede sofas were paired with oversized leather armchairs to create an inviting space for relaxing and entertaining. The large-scale rug boasting beautiful organic shapes and bold pops of blue, orange and white not only pulls it all together but also helps to define the area.
The end result is a truly one-of-a-kind kitchen and entertaining space that’s everything the Mohans could have imagined and more.
