Days off: Monday & Tuesdaysalexander@cantoni.com
Shand was an established fabric designer working for several textile houses when he discovered a love of interior design. “I enjoyed creating the interiors that would ultimately be a ‘gallery’ for the fabrics more than designing the fabrics themselves,” he says. “I was hooked.” The Johannesburg, South Africa, native has since honed his interior design skills completing residential and commercial spaces throughout South Africa and California.
He now strives to push boundaries for his clients, whether in color, shape or texture -- three elements he has a knack for mixing. “If the client is excited to go home, I consider it a job well-done,” he says. That motto has kept him driven since joining Cantoni in 2012. “Meeting people from all walks of life and learning to masterfully cater to their differences in character, design and preference is constantly challenging and exciting,” he says.
In his downtime, Shand is likely to be found at his easel, sketching or painting. “I love to paint portraits, focusing on expressions and moods,” he says. Otherwise, you might find him sporting a pair of comfortable, effortless blue jeans while strumming on his guitar. True to his personal style, clothing “must be simple yet beautifully tailored – and of course comfortable,” he says.
