The project began as a collaboration between the homeowners and the Cantoni Design Studio to create a residence tailored to a new stage of life — one centered on comfort, connection, and effortless everyday living.

Having worked together across previous homes over the years, the relationship was built on a deep understanding of how the couple lives, entertains, and wanted to evolve stylistically as empty nesters. The result is a thoughtfully planned single-story home designed to feel both elevated and highly livable, with generous spaces for hosting family and friends from near and far.

The goal was to design a single-story home that would support ease of living over time while still offering generous, flexible spaces for entertaining and overnight guests. With only the couple living in the home full-time, thoughtful zoning and long-term functionality guided every design decision. A private casita was incorporated for extended guest stays, allowing visitors their own retreat while maintaining the homeowners’ sense of privacy.

Avid golfers, the homeowners also requested a dedicated golf simulator and putting green, transforming part of the home into a highly personalized recreational space. The Cantoni design team approached the media and simulator room with comfort and scale in mind, selecting furnishings that maximize both viewing and play while maintaining the home’s refined contemporary aesthetic.

Stylistically, the clients were ready for a meaningful shift. Their previous home leaned heavily into whites and cool greys, but for this project, they envisioned a warmer, softer palette from the very beginning. “No grey” became an early guiding principle, inspiring interiors layered with warm tones, natural textures, and inviting finishes. Throughout the process, the design team worked closely with the homeowners to help translate that vision into a cohesive and highly livable environment.

Several architectural challenges required thoughtful solutions. The expansive living room, paired with soaring 22-foot ceilings, demanded artwork and area rugs scaled appropriately to the volume of the space. Finding the right rug — one large enough and loved by everyone — took time, including a seven-month production period, but the result was well worth the wait. Custom-scaled artwork and carefully proportioned media furnishings help the room feel balanced, grounded, and visually cohesive despite its grand proportions.

The home offices also required careful planning, with desk configurations designed to allow both homeowners to face one another while still working within the architectural constraints of each room. In the guest casita, furniture selections were thoughtfully coordinated alongside built-in elements such as desks and refrigeration to maximize comfort and functionality without overcrowding the space.

Rather than rushing decisions, the project unfolded in multiple phases, allowing time for art, lighting, accessories, and bedding to be selected intentionally. Each layer was curated to complement the architecture and furnishings, resulting in a home that feels cohesive, personal, and deeply considered.

Most importantly, the project reflects the collaborative relationship built between the homeowners and the Cantoni Design Studio over time. The finished home is not only visually striking, but thoughtfully tailored to support how the clients truly live — balancing beauty, comfort, and functionality in equal measure.
