This project is the result of a long-standing relationship between Cantoni designer Bailey Richmond and her clients, whom she first met more than a decade ago while designing their previous home. Now empty nesters, the couple was ready to build a new residence that would support the next chapter of their lives, one centered on comfort, connection, and effortless living, with plenty of room to host visiting family and friends from near and far.
The goal was to create a single-story home that would be easy to navigate as they age, while still offering generous, flexible spaces for entertaining and overnight guests. With only the couple living in the home full-time, thoughtful zoning and long-term functionality guided every design decision. A private casita was incorporated for extended guest stays, giving visitors their own retreat while maintaining the homeowners’ sense of privacy.
Avid golfers, the homeowners also requested a dedicated golf simulator and putting green, transforming part of the home into a personalized recreational space. Bailey approached the media and simulator room with comfort and scale in mind, selecting seating and media furnishings that maximize both viewing and play, while maintaining the home’s refined, contemporary aesthetic."
Stylistically, the clients were ready for a change. Their previous home leaned heavily into whites and cool greys, but for this project, they wanted warmth from the very beginning. “No grey” was the first directive, and Bailey embraced the opportunity to design a softer contemporary interior layered with warmer tones, natural textures, and inviting finishes. Her design process was guided by listening closely to the clients’ vision, then helping them make confident, informed decisions throughout the journey.
Several architectural challenges required thoughtful solutions. The expansive living room, paired with soaring 22-foot ceilings, demanded art and area rugs scaled appropriately to the volume of the space. Finding a rug large enough, and loved by everyone, took time, with a seven-month production period, but the result was worth the wait. Custom-scaled artwork and carefully proportioned media furniture ensure that the room feels balanced, grounded, and visually cohesive despite its grand proportions.
The home offices also presented unique planning challenges, requiring desk configurations that allowed both clients to face one another while still fitting within the architectural constraints of the rooms. In the guest casita, careful furniture selection ensured that beds and nightstands worked harmoniously alongside built-in elements such as desks and refrigerators, maximizing comfort without overcrowding the space.
Rather than rushing selections, the project unfolded in multiple phases, allowing time for art, lighting, accessories, and bedding to be chosen intentionally. Each layer was thoughtfully curated to complement the architecture and furnishings, resulting in a home that feels complete, cohesive, and deeply personal.
For Bailey, the most rewarding part of the project was the relationship itself. Having worked with the clients for so many years, the collaboration became about more than just design, it became a shared journey built on trust, honesty, and mutual respect. The finished home reflects that connection, offering not only beautiful spaces, but a lifestyle tailored to how the clients truly live.
