When these homeowners decided to leave Virginia for a new chapter on the shores of Lake Keowee, they envisioned more than a beautiful waterfront home. They wanted a modern residence that embraced its surroundings while providing comfortable spaces for everyday living, entertaining, and quiet moments overlooking the lake.
Working alongside architect Scott Crichton of Architecture 224, Cantoni Design Studio collaborated with the homeowners to develop an interior design approach that would complement the home's striking architecture and celebrate its extraordinary setting. Rather than competing with the views, every design decision was made to strengthen the connection between the home and the landscape beyond.
Inspired by the surrounding woods and water, the interior palette was intentionally restrained. Soft neutrals, rich earth tones, natural textures, and refined materials create a sense of calm throughout the home, allowing the changing colors of the lake and surrounding landscape to become an extension of the interiors.
One of the defining aspects of the project was designing for the way the homeowners wanted to experience the property every day. The kitchen, dining room, great room, and covered outdoor living areas flow naturally from one space to the next, creating an effortless transition between indoor and outdoor living. Whether entertaining family and friends or enjoying a quiet morning overlooking the water, every space was designed to support the homeowners' lifestyle while maintaining a strong connection to nature.
The home's architecture and natural setting really guided every decision. Our goal was to create interiors that felt completely at home within the space while allowing the views to remain the focal point.

Throughout the home, every selection was made with the overall architectural experience in mind. Furnishings, lighting, materials, and finishes were carefully considered in relation to the home's scale, natural light, and surrounding views, resulting in interiors that feel intentional, balanced, and timeless without ever feeling overdesigned.
The primary suite continues the home's quiet, understated character, while guest spaces maintain the same thoughtful balance of comfort, simplicity, and connection to nature. Consistent materials, clean lines, and carefully edited furnishings establish continuity throughout the residence, allowing each room to feel distinct while contributing to a cohesive whole.
Today, the home stands as an example of how thoughtful interior design extends far beyond selecting furnishings. Through collaboration, careful planning, and a shared design vision, the Cantoni Design Studio helped transform a newly constructed waterfront residence into a home that feels timeless, welcoming, and deeply connected to the way its owners live.
The result is a modern lakeside retreat where architecture, interior design, and the surrounding landscape exist in complete harmony.
