Upon entering 1415 Bounty Way, there is a step that leads down into the living room, where folding doors open to an 825-square-foot patio that overlooks jaw-dropping views of the Pacific Ocean. It’s the highlight of many beautiful details in the new house built by Joe Bulwa in Laguna Beach. Before putting it on the market, he called on Cantoni designer Jay Haen to transform the space into an inviting oasis.
Jay delivered by selecting and arranging modern Cantoni furnishings that enhance the view in each room and help potential homeowners envision the seaside spot as their own. He brought in white Italian leather pieces, sculptural tables, bedroom furnishings with glossy finishes, and sleek kitchen bar stools with chrome legs. Handpicked artwork, including abstract paintings and eclectic Heads on Stands metal sculptures complement the Cali-inspired paintings Joe chose from a local gallery.
“I kept things light and fresh by using a neutral palette of whites and greys with wood accents,” Jay says. “The rock star in the home is the ocean view, and I didn’t want to detract from that. I wanted the furniture to flow seamlessly from the indoors to the outdoors.” For the living room, he brought in a five-piece sectional, the Leroux dark oak coffee table and crisp white leather swivel chairs. To add warmth and texture, he selected a pair of cozy faux fur ottomans and the Viera graphic area rug.
“The furniture that Jay selected was perfect,” Joe says. “The large sectional in the living room is especially ideal, offering picturesque views of the ocean no matter where you’re sitting. Plus it’s so soft and comfortable, you just sink into it and never want to get up.” The setup, which comfortably seats 12, is versatile enough to suggest a night of stargazing from the couch or an evening of entertaining.
To add lived-in warmth, Jay draped faux lamb throws, his signature touch, over the master bed and living room couch. “People immediately touch the throws,” Jay says. “When they explore the home, we want to hit on all their senses and make them feel comfortable in the space right away.”
