Sebastian Herkner was born in 1981 in Bad Mergentheim, Germany. He studied product design at the HfG Offenbach am Main (Offenbach University of Art and Design), already focusing during his studies on designing objects and furniture merging various cultural contexts, combining new technologies with traditional craftsmanship in order to highlight the multifaceted beauty of the materials and draw renewed attention to small details. Whilst still a student, Herkner did an internship with Stella McCartney in London, which helped to hone his feeling for materials, colours, structures and textures. “There is a sensitivity and identity to my work that emphasizes the function, the material and the detail. I transport and interpret characteristics from various contexts of society and culture and implement them in new artefacts. This character infuses the most everyday objects with respect and personality. In this manner, seemingly contrary things can experience esteem.“
Fern is a dining chair with a mix of different materials that when combined, showcases the luxury and durability of its design. Like most of Gloster's innovative designs, Fern's frame is crafted of teak, a durable wood that is the ideal solution for long-lasting outdoor furniture. Its frame wraps around a slightly curved back of dune roping and an outdoor-friendly fabric cushion of Sunbrella fabric.

- Hardwood Teak Frame
- Gloster selects each log of teak hardwood based on their low natural defects, providing you with the highest quality product. Teak is perfect for outdoor use due to its high oil content, which makes it extremely weather resistant. Left to weather naturally, teak will turn from a golden-brown color to a light silvery grey as the pigments in the surface layer of the wood begin to fade away. We recommend that you allow your teak furniture to weather naturally and simply clean thoroughly once or twice a year with either a water and mild detergent solution or ideally, Gloster's Teak & Upholstery Cleaner.

Gloster Supplies a small abrasive paper to remove surface scratches or marks that otherwise cannot be cleaned and a piece of the orginal teak for color reference with each teak piece.
